Lets make stuff shoots

The past two weekends have been rather fun and entertaining. For both of them I’ve been out filming with a group of fellow film makers in York.

The first weekend was filming a music video for the band The Sorry Kisses. The weather was good as we filmed away in Leeds; one odd aspect was that we always having to clear debris from the previous nights firework display. It was quite crazy how much rubbish is created by a display. I wish I’d seen it, looked like a huge display. The second day we were back in York filming once again in the sun but with a little more cloud which proved to be slightly annoying as the sun kept on disappearing causing us to look at it just as the cloud moved away again; before finishing the day off with some rather nice dusk shots.

The second weekend was a bit of a bigger shoot filming out in a farm just past Thirsk, shooting a fight movie under the title of ‘leaf.’ The weather was again very good to us if rather cold particular on the second day of filming.I felt a bit for the actors who were diving for there down jackets between takes and during resets. The weekend was still great fun as the actors gave us a display of some fantastic fight scenes which were really fun to capture. The fight scene also gave me a great chance to use the glide cam over the weekend which worked really well adding some nice movement to the shots.

Both of the weekends have been the produced by Miles Watts a film maker based in York who produced the film Crimefighters last year. His excuse for these shoots was just to make stuff, and everybody involved in the weekends put in a great amount of effort which was great to be surrounded by while filming. There was a real sense a community and collaboration over the two shoots. I’m really pleased with both the shoots and am looking forward to seeing the final edits of both the shoots. (Note: The concept and idea of the fight movie came from Chris Smith and Rob Johnson the two lead roles in the film, and the main ideas for the music video came from Mario and Ryan.)

Below are a few stills from the fight film shoot. Also heres a link to Tom Dunnes Flickr with a few shots from the music video shoot.
